There’s no denying that 2017 was the year of Instagram Stories. Instagram’s copycat version of Snapchat may not have as many filters, but in 2017 it insanely grew to over 300 million daily active users, which is double the size of Snapchat, what!
In 2018, Instagram Stories should become a part of your Instagram marketing strategy.
So why is the hot feature so important? VIDEO! The growing popularity of video is what our followers are telling us they want more of. More and more businesses are seeing the value in creating short-lived video content, whether it’s fun and lighthearted or more business-focused. Sharing these videos are quick n easy, connect deeper with your following, and brings more life to your brand.
Also we saw Instagram add a number of great features and capabilities to Instagram Stories in 2017. From stickers to clickable links, Instagram heavy investment into Stories last year really paid off.
Which brings me to today’s topic, Instagram stories newest feature, highlights.
So what does this mean for you?
This recently added feature has already made a big impact for brands, businesses, entrepreneurs and bloggers.
Unlike regular Instagram Stories that vanish in 24 hours, Instagram Stories Highlights are curated clips grouped together by you and live permanently on your profile until you delete them.
They appear directly under your bio and above your Instagram feed and will play as a stand-alone story when someone taps on it. The feature is literally front and center on your profile. It’s amazing!
Instagram Stories Highlights are an extremely valuable addition to an Instagram business profile, because they allow brands to easily curate and showcase the content they want users to see first.
You can think of Highlights like a movie trailer for your Instagram feed. They’re a creative way to build your social brand, show your products, drive traffic to your site, and market your business!
Using Instagram Stories Highlights is a great way for you to attract new followers, too. Using Highlights you can showcase what your business is, what you do, and why someone should follow you.
For example, my highlights share my weekly blog post, YouTube channel and freebies. If someone goes to my highlights they can see what topics I like to post about. They can then quickly decided if my profile is right for them.
Creating highlights are very easy.
Go to your Instagram stories.
Open up any recent shares.
Look for the heart on the bottom right. If will say Highlight. Click the heart to add that story to your profile.
You can label your highlights into different categories.
For example I have a Blog highlight, YouTube Highlight and Freebie Highlight. Then inside each story I share those specific categories.
Weekly I add the Blog post to the blog highlight.
Same for the other categories.
You can also add icons to your highlights instead of having the story share show up inside the story circle.
